Paris Day 4

Today is Kathy's 50th Birthday so we she came downstairs we gave her cards and her present. (500 chocolate recipes in French) She can now cook us all something chocolate when she has us over for dinner.

Noel and I set off after breakfast for Musee De L'Armee Hotel National Des Invalides, we decided to walk to burn a few calories and take in the sites of Paris. This is the site of Napoleons Tomb. In 1840 Louis-Philippe I ordered for the mortal remains of Napoleon to be returned from the island of Saint Helena and for a tomb to be erected under the Dome of L'Hotel des Invalides. It was completed in 1861 and around the sarcophagus 12 victory statues symbolise the military campaigns of Napoleon.

The complex also houses a display dedicated to Charles de Gaulle, The 2 world wars and Ancient Amour and Arms.  The Armory was fantastic and its one of the three largest arms museums in the world. There was also a special exhibition on the Princes of Europe's Armour which had a small display of the collection of drawings gathered from 1724-1799 which are the life size patterns. This was fascinating and the workmanship that went into the armor is outstanding.

There is also an amazing display of French cannons for the 17th to the 19th century around the grounds which looks very impressive.

We got back to the apartment around 2.30pm so we spent about 3.5 hours looking around and you could have spent a lot longer. We caught the metro back which was quick and easy.

After our nana naps we had birthday cake for Kathys Birthday. It was delicious. a very light sponge with a berry mouse inside with fresh fruit on top but unfortunatly Kathy couldn't eat it. She did have a piece of the fruit on top.

We had a nana nap, Noel and I are going to the Eiffel Tower and the Moulin Rouge tonight for Kathy's 50th. Richard and Kathy aren't going to come as unfortunately Kathy is not up to it so we need to have double the fun.
