After another fabulous English breakfast and a bit of a chat it was time for us to leave Linda and Nick and make our way north. It was sad to say goodbye but hopefully we will see them again. We had a wonderful visit getting to know my long lost relatives, they made us very welcome and we can't thank them enough for their hospitality.
We hit the road and programmed Edith for Stonehenge. We made it their easily and refused to pay 7.50£ each to get 50 meters closer than I could get looking at it from the side of the road. We took some photos and decided we had got the gist.
We then headed for Bath but along the way we stopped at Farleigh Hungford Castle. This was excellent and only 4£ to get in. A lot of the castle is in ruins but the audio guide was really good and told you the story of the Hungfords and the demise of the family and castle. You could walk over the ruins and the priests house and the chapel where still standing. The tombs of the important Humgfords are in the chapel however there is a really spooky cript you can go down which has 5 adults and 2 children's coffins still preserved perfectly.
After the castle we went to Iford Manor. This was a scary drive down a single lane road but very beautiful. The area around the manor is stunning and you can pay to go into the gardens which are Grade 1 Italian style and famous for its tranquill beauty but we just stopped for tea and scones. The drive out was even more scary and a few times we had to pass other cars and horses. We went through one village and people who where walking with a pram had to back up as it was too narrow for us to pass them.
We arrive at our bed and breakfast and it is the best yet. Our room is huge on the first floor and it has a bay window over looking a valley. king size bed yeah.
We went to the local pub 5 minutes walk away the Cross Keys which is much nicer than the cross keys at home for dinner as they have a 2 for 1 before 7 pm. This was really good but as it was still early we decided to walk to the village for a drink after dinner at the Packhorse Inn. This seemed like a good idea at the time but it was down hill so by the time we walked back I had 2.5 pints of cider so it didnt seem such a good idea anymore as now we had to walk uphill. We made it back and I wallowed like a beached whale one the wonderful king size bed.
Bath tomorrow which I am really looking forward to.
