Woke early feeling a lot better than yesterday so we had an early breakfast and went for a walk around the streets near the hotel. Again the streets are so nice with the spring flowers in full bloom with another spectacular day in store for us.
Caught the train into Marienplatz to meet Phil and Leon at the gilded statue of the virgin Mariensaule. Found them no problem and we watched the 11.00am glockenspiel (Neues Rathaus)chiming clock. We went for a walk around the city via the Hofgarten which is formal flowerbeds and hedges shaded by linden trees (chestnut trees) to the English garden where we went and watched the open river surfing on the Eisbach. This is truly amazing to watch people surfing in a river. The water is freezing and these guys jump in and surf waves created by rocks in the stream. It is very popular with about 15 surfers all taking a turn at the waves.
We took another leisurely stroll back into Marienplatz for lunch where we had traditional Bavarian food at the Beisses Brauhaus. Phil and I had the pork hock with traditional knodel which is a delicious dumpling. Leon had the schnitzel and Noel the sausages with sauerkraut and mustard.
Full of delicious food we decided to tackle Vodafone for sim cards for the phone and iPad. Just like the phone shops in Adelaide never enough staff. After patiently waiting we finally had what we needed and walked some more around Munich chatting away with Phil about life in Germany.
One thing I noticed is they like to decorate the shop windows for Easter with rabbits and special twiggs decorated with eggs. Much like we do for Xmas. It is also the season for spar gal. This white asparagus is everywhere along with strawberries which aparantly come from Spain.
All too soon the day was nearly over so we stopped for beer and ice-cream at an outside cafe which was so nice in this great weather Munich is having.
Thanks Phil and Leon for a great day, Leon was so good all day putting up with the adults dragging him around the city, a true pleasure to be with and it was fantastic to catch up with you both.
Back to the hotel for a rest before dinner. (more food)
I am reading this at lunchtime Julie and wish I had the Bratwurst, sauerkraut und Senf (mustard) hehehe. Hope weather stays that way for us count down just over 3 weeks. Enjoy
