Munich

After 18 hours in the air we arrived to a chilly 3 degrees in Munich, Germany. After looking everywhere to buy a train ticket with no luck we decided to chance it and got on the train to the hotel. Lucky for us no SS borded the train and we got to the hotel with no problem. We got to the hotel at 7am and dumped off the bags and made our way into the centre of the city on the train with a ticket this time. Navigating our way throughout the bicycle rush hour we walked around the city admiring the spring flowers everywhere. Planter boxes and gardens all throughout the city with every spring flower you can imagine.

Finally we made our way to the Munich Residence which was the home of Bavarian Kings 1806-1918. This place is amazing and huge as the various rulers extended and furnished the rooms to their own tastes. So many different styles all with their own splendor. A lot was lost in world war 2 however they have done an amazing job in restoring it.

After wandering through the Residence for 2 hours we stoped at an outside beer cafe and soaked in the beautiful sunshine for a while enjoying the atmosphere. We decided to get an early lunch around the Marienplatz. After eating some amazing rolls at half the price you would pay at home we still had time to kill so we took the city sightseeing open top bus tour. Munich is a fantastic city with some amazing old buildings which have been restored from the war. A clean vibrant city, very friendly and so far most people speak English and are very helpful.

It turned out to be a amazing day, the weather is just stunning not a cloud in the sky, about 20 degrees. In fact I think I got a bit of sun burn.

Finally time came to check into the hotel which is very funky. It has just been fully renovated and is very quaintly decorated. After a few hours cat nap and shower we went out for a Bavarian meal. The meals here Are huge and we ate 4 times the amount we would at home, biggest loser here we come.

Looking forward to meeting Phil tomorrow but for now I need some sleep.

Guten Nacht
