We woke early again today so after breakfast we decided to go to the Deutsches Museum as we don't catch the train to Milan until after lunch.
Museums usually bore me but Noel loves them. This museum is dedicated to science and technology. I must say I was very impressed with their collection especially the aeronautics. My dad would have spent a week here checking out all the planes.
Back to the hotel for a midday check out and off to find our train to Milan. We caught the S1 to the central station and where completely confused on were to go next. We finally found a info desk and we where directed upstairs to the DB. Bags in tow we made it up to the Rail Europe station. This was another challenge but luck was on our side and we picked the correct counter and found our train.
We settled into our first class seats and set off for Milan. This train trip is spectacular. First through the German countryside and into the alps. Just like a picture postcard. The most impressive is making your way through the Austrian Alps. This is the most spectacular scenery I have ever experienced. Just like you imagine it from watching the Sound of Music. With some snow still on the mountain tops and with no clouds in the amazing blue sky we could not have pre ordered better weather to do this trip. 23 degrees today.
As we left Austria for Italy the land scape changed slightly and as we started to decend from the alps we hit wine region. The Vietnamese would be impressed with the way the Italians terraced the vines up sheer mountainsides.
We passed many castles and monestories along the way perched on top of mountain tops overlooking the amazing landscape.
Out of the alps now and onto flat landscape the rural areas of Italy are Beuatiful but passing through the big towns just didn't have the same beauty as Germany.
Finally we pulled onto Milan and with the help of friendly locals we found the train we needed to get to our hotel. The Italian trains are very shabby compared to the german trains but we found our way. Exiting the main station we decided on a cab instead of the bus as it had been a long day and we had, had enough of navigating the public transport. The weather is warm and even at 9.00pm we don't need jackets. Not what I was expecting at all. They say this could be the warmest Easter in Europe for decades.
Finally into the room, bit of washing and blogging and time for bed. Meeting Kathy and Richard tomorrow ready to start our French Adventure on Saturday.
Happy Easter everyone, don't eat too much chocolate and enjoy your 5 day break.
Happy 80th Birthday Val
Buonanotte
