We woke at 7.30 to the sound of the church bells which are about 100 meters away. After breakfast we packed up and went to Oradour Sur Glane. This is a very moving place and you feel like you are in a world war 2 movie. The Village has not been touched since 1944 and you can feel the tragedy that happened here. The reasons why the SS committed such a crime has never been determined. Some of the SS have been brought to trial in either Bordeaux or Berlin but others escaped retribution.
After our sobering visit we set course to Amboise. Angelina took us through Beuatiful scenery again and lovely villages. We arrived and decided to visit Chateau de Chenoneau which was built on the river Cher in the 16th century. The original fortified castle was demolished apart from the Keep. The layout of the forecourt is a copy of the former medieval fortress surrounded by moats. The Chateau was once donated to the mistress of King Henri ll. When he died she gave it back to the Queen in exchange for Chaumont Sur Loire. The Chateau is picturesc over the river and the gardens are stunning.
There is so many visitors here it is unbelivable. We should have come in the morning as we find this is a much quieter time to see things. We enjoy our visit anyway as it gets a bit quiter later on. Now it's time to find the B&B.
We set course for the B&B and are not having much luck, we ring and Kathy talks to our host who does not speak English. She get the gist of what she is saying and eventually we make it to our destination. Kathy does all the talking and does an amazing job.
We decide to go to the laundry matt and do some washing and then head back to plan tomorrow's adventures.
