Lourdes to Limoges/Nouic

After a driving to Limoges past picture postcard scernery we stopped at a porcelain shop and bought a couple of items to bring home then continued our journey onto Nouic which is about 50kms out of Limoges. Limoges is famous for it's porcelain and is capital of the Limousin region. The Romans founded it in 16BC.

We wind Our way through the small villages and reach our destination. Our B&B is superb and the weather matched. It is 30 degrees so we have drinks by the pool and meet the other guests. The rooms are huge and so are the ensuits. Nouic was first established in 1709 and the barn which was on the B&B property was bulit in 1656. The small town of 535 residents has an award winning baker and butcher.

The owners purchased the old barn in 2002 hoping to convert it into a dream home but alas that was not to be however a local bulider used the stone from the original barn to bulid the new home. They sold their home in the UK in 2004 and lived in a mobile home until 2005 when the outside of the home was finished and they started on the inside. In 2006 they installed a pool and got the lovely garden started.

After drinks we went for a short walk into town and it is so peacefull it is a shame we can only spend one night here. While we are off walking John even washes our car windows for us, now that's Service.

We had dinner at the B&B with the other guests who are originally from the UK and are driving down to Spain as they have just sold their townhouse and are going to Do the final paper work. Dinner is four courses with roast pork mine and Kathys favorite for main. We have some very yummy cheese and then delicious raspberry tart for dessert. Our hosts are wonderful and John tells us all about mole hunting and his endeavor to blast away all moles in Nouic. He is wonderful host, very funny and Marilyn is a great cook. We would defiantly recommend their B&B if you are ever in the area.

The other guests are very nice people as well and we all get on really well and have a wonderful night. There is an amazing lighting storm but strangely no thunder or rain outside as we go to bed.

Close by is Oradour Sur Glane which on the 10th of June 1944 was attacked by a Waffen SS unit. 642 men, women and children where murdered which was basically the whole town. They went back the next day and burnt the village to the ground to try and coverup what they had done. To preserve the memory of this drama the martyr village has been preserved in the same state since 1944. We will go and visit tomorrow on our way to Amboise.
