Normandy to Brugge

Today we hit the road to Bruges, this is one of our longest drives for the trip. We leave the Beautiful country side of Normandy with it's agricultural and pastoral sweeping fields that go for miles and miles. The lovely white daisies and red poppies that grow on the side of the road along with little yellow and purple flowers thrown in every now and then just to make it even more pretty. Much nicer than sour sobs and the weeds we get.

We get to Brugge mid afternoon and find the hotel which is in the old part of town. Brugge was in the middle ages one of Europe's most prosperous towns but it fell from grace and slumbered for centuries. Late in the 19th century the antiquarians recognized it as a historic gem and began a campaign to restore and preserve it. It has become a tourist destination and undergone a second renaissance. It is now famous for art and a wonderful walking city.

We went for a short walk after dinner which we had at one of the only restaurants we could find open. I actully had a salad tonight which was like our salads at home and not a French salad of just lettuce. The streets are very quite and it's only a hand full of tourists walking around. We had to sit a separate tables as they where very busy.

The city is very clean and very quaint and I look forward to seeing more of it tomorrow. Near the hotel it seems every second shop sells chocolate and beer. This makes Kathy and Noel very happy.
